like a bottle

“I am a bottle, Sometimes red, sometimes blue, I can be the every hue… Sometimes tall, sometimes short, You can see me with all sort. Sometimes I am drunk, Then you see that I stumble and fall; Sometimes I just stand, With nothing but a stall. Sometimes I’m with a dirty little lad, Along with my other friends; Then we go to junkshop, Where the junkman has become his friend. Through the road we go, Being thrown against a man; Blood flowed through his head, As we get smashed and landed on the ground. Sometimes I float, With the water as it rise; But sometimes I just sink For all the weight that’s inside. When I broke, I can stay broken. But if I wish, I can become whole again. That’s me! I’m a bottle. Definitely! I am… We are like the bottle, having colors of different hues and different sizes. We have characteristics that each of us uniquely possess. But despite these differences, we still are bottles and that makes us one. And with that, we must becom

BUILDING ON SANDS

Image
Little by little, the walls arise Shining with magnificence, its glory shines Glimmering the world’s darkest sides Amazed by its beauty, everyone desires. Yet through the brightness the roaring waves splash Through the magnificent castle that was built on sand The towering walls worn out and crushed Oh why could this happen? Gone were the lush. Frustration, grief, and sorrow fill the air As the castle once built was nothing there Gone with the waves, gone with the ground All we see was sand, but the castle’s not around. We grieve for the castle, we mourn in despair But have we ever mourned for the creator of air? Loving the world, striving for abundance Yet leaving our souls with nothing, no substance. Everything on Earth is just temporary Even the castle that was built in glory Everything is non-sense, even the hours But with Him as our builder, all is ours.

Tita Cory, It is Well, It is Well!

When was the last time somebody died and changed your life? Oftentimes, we rarely pay much attention to the impact of such traumatic events. We weep, we cry. As if we were attached to the person who died, that there will be no life after death, no hope for us to cling on. Tita Cory’s death is a really traumatic experience especially to her children, to her grandsons and granddaughters, but most importantly to the lives she has changed, from the moment she stands out from the crowd and waved the flag of democracy against the strangling and lashing forces of the Marcos regime. But as her death pass by, I asked myself many times. What does Tita Cory’s life and death did for me? Is it the “Laban sign” that I started to imitate from the people I watched on the television or the fight that I must continue for the change that I must struggle on? Is it the yellow ribbon that was tied up to the trees and was treated as a new fashion trend or the yellow color as the symbol of

Wari baga’y
